A little bit about myself

Hi there, I’m Camille.

I’m a mum, step-mum, wife, scientist, certified coach, psychology graduate and mental health advocate.

My purpose is to ensure that mums follow their career aspirations without sacrificing precious moments with their families.

I grew up in France and I now live in sunny Brisbane, Australia. I enjoy travelling, discovering new cultures and trying new foods. I'm fluent in French, English and Spanish.

I have worked for over a decade in the competitive environment of Academic research where I have experienced first-hand the struggle of balancing an intense workload with family commitments. In my coaching practice, I rely on both my own personal experience and discoveries from psychological research to guide mothers towards more balance, more confidence and less guilt.

I tell you more about my journey below.

Motherhood Meets Academia: the Ultimate Balancing Act?

The boundary between my work and personal life used to be non-existent.

I was passionate about my job as an Immunologist, not only because the little white blood cells in our body are fascinating but also because I wanted to find the cure to cancer (or more realistically, contribute to better care).

I did not want to let others down and constantly worried about meeting the expectations of an organisation that requested always more. My only commitment was to produce research outputs (if you’re curious, you can find them here). I found myself working late on evenings and spending most of my weekends in the laboratory…

When my daughter came into this world, she became my number one priority.

Yet, I felt torn: I wanted to continue making meaningful contributions to science, but I also aspired to be a present and connected mother. I felt like I was doing everything half-way. When I was working, I felt guilty about being away from my child, and when I was home, I was often lost in my thoughts worrying about work. This was exhausting!

How I found my peace

The transition to motherhood prompted me to revisit my priorities.

With the support of a psychotherapist, I learned to reconnect with my body.  I embraced several mindfulness practices which allowed me to better regulate my emotions. I took full responsibility for holding the boundaries needed to my wellbeing. For example, I put limits around when I would check my work emails and I reduced my people pleasing patterns. My self-talk became more positive as I offered myself kindness and compassion.

I became more confident and assertive as I followed my inner voice. I no longer relied on external validation.

Honouring my Core Values: Kindness, Connection and Authenticity

Further inner-work allowed me to reconnect with my core values and I realised that I needed kindness, connection and authenticity. Since, these values were not aligned with the competitive environment of Academia, I decided to switch career. I went back to studying. I obtained a Graduate Diploma of Psychology and also became a Certified Life Coach. I wanted to guide other women so they can find their sweet spot in life.
